IAM RoadSmart – Neurodiversity and Observation

About This Webinar

Join us for our live online talk, as we raise awareness of neurodiversity. We will be examining how learning difficulties can impact the development of advanced riders and drivers.

This thought-provoking session is designed to help drivers and riders in terms of their observation and information processing, particularly if they need to modify their current approach.

The event will be hosted by Denis McCann, the author of the ‘IAM RoadSmart Guidance on Neurodiversity’. He will focus on dyslexia, one of the more widely encountered conditions, before examining the strategies we use as observers. We’ll end the session by looking at some common errors, and how sessions may be made more inclusive.

You’ll be able to submit questions to Denis throughout the talk, and download the guidance document.

Please note, if you’re unable to attend the live session, all registered attendees will have access to a recording, which will be made available for a period of seven days from the following Monday after the online event. Please note, you’ll be unable to take part in the live Q&A.

Denis McCann is behind the IAM RoadSmart Neurodiversity Guide, a new document that helps Observers and Examiners adapt their training techniques to individual learning styles – particularly for people whose minds work differently. The guide provides insight into conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, autism, Asperger’s, Tourette’s and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Denis started riding in motorcycle trials competitions in the late 1970s, while his IAM RoadSmart involvement began via the blue-light driver membership exemption. He’s worked his way up to National Observer with Wilts and Bath Advanced Motorcyclists, holds a Masters with Distinction and plans to become a DVSA bike instructor. He uses his unique perspective to give neurodiversity presentations to groups across the UK.
